Blasts and Low-Altitude Planes Witnessed in Venezuelan Capital Caracas City

Witness testimonies circulated of multiple explosions and the roar of low-flying planes in Caracas in the small hours of the weekend. This event has prompted allegations from the Venezuelan authorities and demands for global intervention.

Venezuela Blames Washington of Attack

The authoritarian government has blamed the US of what it calls "foreign aggression," stating that former President Trump reportedly ordered strikes against the Latin American country. In an formal declaration, the authorities stated that strikes had impacted Caracas and several other regions: Miranda state, La Guaira state, and Aragua state.

"Our sole aim of these strikes is to take control of our nation's natural resources, in particular its oil and resources," Venezuela said.

The government called on the international community to denounce the actions, which it described a "blatant breach of international law" that endangered countless of lives at risk in danger.

Reports of Blasts and Military Bases Targeted

Locals spoke of experiencing roughly several powerful blasts around the middle of the night local time. Residents in several areas allegedly rushed into the streets outside.

"Everything shook. This is frightening. We heard explosions and planes in the distance," stated one resident.

Black smoke was observed pouring from key military installations in the city: the La Carlota military airfield and the Fuerte Tiuna army base, where leader Maduro is reported to reside.

Global Condemnation

The president of bordering Colombia, claimed on X that "Currently they are bombing Caracas... bombing it with rockets." He demanded an immediate meeting of the UN Security Council.

The Colombian government, which just joined the UNSC, said it would activate security measures at its border with its neighbor.

Preceding Events

These reported attacks come after a prolonged military buildup by the Trump administration against the Maduro regime. Beginning in August, authorities reported a substantial naval presence off the country's Caribbean coast and a number of strikes on ships linked to illegal activities.

The government has stated "the implementation of external disturbance" and commanded all national defense protocols to be implemented. It has also called on its supporters to mobilize and "denounce this foreign attack."

The White House and the US Department of Defense did not publicly commented on inquiries for comment regarding the reports.
