Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
