Jones additionally emphasized that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just showed the wrong finger,” he remarked. “The action was accidentally performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Panthers proprietor Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
