Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
