The January transfer window is always a period of feverish speculation and potential major moves. Several high-profile footballers find themselves linked with moves out of their present teams. We examine a selection of the major figures who are poised to be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Latest reports suggest the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his signature. Marc Guéhi

This England centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace this season a previous transfer to Anfield falling through. As his contract set to run out in the close season, January is the club's last opportunity to secure a fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, such as Manchester City and multiple European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. However, a January exit is considered difficult, especially given the manager's dependence on the player.

B. Johnson

This Wales forward has found first-team opportunities limited at Tottenham this campaign. Although being the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has begun just a handful of league games. Reports suggest the London club would be willing to consider a sale for the correct valuation, thought to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Tottenham rate the Welsh international at around forty million pounds.

Rúben Neves

This Portugal playmaker might be poised for a return to the English top flight following a period in Saudi Arabia. Still only twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are rumours from Spain that he would be prepared to accept a pay cut for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran German shot-stopper is now as the third option at Barcelona under new coach Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a January departure looks increasingly probable. Villa were once linked as a potential destination, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

This prolific England striker has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his dwindling hopes of being in the national squad. However, arranging a deal presents significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge salary render any move difficult. The highly-rated Turkish attacker is in excellent form for Juventus this season. With his existing contract running down, a host of English sides – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the youngster to a new long-term contract but are in a battle to retain one of Europe's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Netherlands midfielder has earned comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is widely expected to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle United are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
