The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most engaged experiences globally maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
