The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”

The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
